Athletic Field Complex Scheduled to be Complete in April 2014

The project was originally expected to be finished by the end of May this year.

At Tuesday's Garwood Council meeting, Councilman and Athletic Field Complex Liaison Lou Petruzzelli reported that the project is now scheduled to be complete by the last week of April.

Council members encouraged Petruzzelli to put pressure on the contractors, Flanagan Construction, to adhere to the new schedule and end date, as the project has experienced several delays. It was originally scheduled to be complete by the end of May 2013.

The Garwood Baseball League, which has been displaced by the construction, has a season that begins in early April. Petruzzelli said he is also anxious for the project to be complete because he is involved in the league.

The $3.2-million project includes a new multi-purpose turf field, field house with a full kitchen and activity space, upgrades and lighting for the existing baseball field, and a bocce court. It will be partially funded with $1.1 million in county and state grants.

Plans for the building of the complex have been underway for more than 10 years.
