Pair Wanted in Carjacking Spree Caught in Clark, Chief Says

Police and a helicopter searched the area but were not able to locate a third person connected to the Tuesday morning incidents.

Two men believed to be involved in a series of carjackings early Tuesday morning that began in Woodbridge were apprehended in Clark, police said.

According to Clark Police Chief Alan Scherb, at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, a resident spotted two men running from a vehicle parked on Florence Drive and called police. Police officers spotted the men walking about a block away and apprehended them, Scherb said.

"After searching the vehicle, evidence suggested there might be a third suspect and so we began a search," Scherb told Patch. "But we don’t know if he actually came into Clark or was dropped off somewhere before they arrived here."

Scherb said Clark Police, State Police and a State Police helicopter searched the wooded area between Walnut Avenue and the Garden State Parkway but did not find a third carjacker, ending the search around 1 p.m.

Police learned the alleged carjackers began their spree in Woodbridge before attempting a second carjacking in Newark, but were thwarted when police arrived on the scene, Scherb said. The carjackers were then able to elude police, eventually winding up in Clark, Scherb said.

Scherb said the investigation is ongoing and could not yet release the names of the two men arrested.
