    I guess I just don't know anymore.

For over 50 years I thought there wasn't a better cup of coffee in the entire area than the White Diamond in Clark and also the one on North Avenue in Westfield. Always, hot, deeply flavored, and consistant, it was the best I knew. Hah, and cheap compared to places like DD and Starbucks.

When Lloyd's was open in Garwood it was on a par with the White Diamonds but, why not he worked in the Westfield White Diamond.

I'm not impressed by all the new designer/high priced coffees. We still start our day at home with fresh perked <---Yes, not drip coffee. What do I use? A blend by Gevalia called Breakfast Blend that tastes real close to the old heavy white cup of coffee at the White Diamonds.

    Jessica,
Your Pictures, Video, and Stories of Corporal Kevin Reinhard were absolutely perfect. You and the Clark-Garwood Patch have honored this American Hero and his Family. I thank all his friends, neighbors, and the many Patriots who came to raise him to the arms of Angels in such an honorable fashion.

  • On the article What Should We Tell Students About 9/11?

    William F. Hoover

This necessity must be dissected into age groups. We are not going to tell the young ones all the gory details of that day or the reasoning. On that same line our Junior and Senior High School young adults need to learn about the specifics regarding Islamic extremists. For the young, start by explaining the stealing of the planes and these planes crashing in different spots. Then, go right to American's first responders. I would talk of the heroism of our Police, Fire, and Medical. Then add in the heroism of the regular Guys and Gals that also aided others, that stayed, and saved lives. It would be my opinion also, to soften what happened in the short term and focus on who saved us and why here in America our first priority is our countrymen. Then, bring on the introduction of terrorism, life, and death through religious and political extremism against the societal norms of our world. This is the way the information goes out and the young impressionable minds are protected. Slowly and increasing so that the high school graduate can hold an intelligent conversation about the 09/11 situation. The discussions should even go deeper in all college curriculums. Children need to know they are safe in order to go about building on this initial knowledge and moving on to the realities of life. William (Bill) Hoover-ALJ'66.

From what I have been able to see of the PATCH coverage and Bill Duffy's posts on Facebook our Hero, Army Sgt. James Harvey II, received a very fine send off by all his Family, Friends, and the Public. I will keep him on my Memorial Day list and each Memorial Day when I travel to the Nevada Veterans Cemetery I will include him with others that I honor for their valiant service to our Country and each of us. I am very proud of Sgt. Harvey as I am of all our Clark and Garwood veterans for their sacrifices to protect us all in our Garwood and Clark Hometown area. He will rest in peace now as he is shielded by the wings of Angels.

Guess, you all went over to Garwood and everyone went "Down the Shore" for the holiday. You didn't get to talk to anyone there. We sure know what Clark folks are doing not matter what the headline says.

    Bill,

My Dad was USCG, BM1 attached to the Destroyer O'Bannon all through the Pacific. He told me once about this battle. He was transferred to flight school as a BMC when they finally got to New Guinea. We were not related to the Navy Captain G. Hoover who i think commanded a Cruiser.

I think your account is excellent and really enjoyed it. I am honored to now know the stories of Mr. Ruddy and Mr. Bienko. The actions of our whole fleet here astonished me. What heroism and bravery to purpose all involved exhibited.

I hope you will share more about those who perished from Clark. I would ask that if you can, please include in these articles a couple of the KIA's of any of our conflicts from Garwood.

    Thanks for a great article.

    My Regards,

    Bill Hoover

This is a good, informative article about someone who until right now I'd never heard of. Since what Mr. Perrotta writes is as he puts it, "familiar to anyone who grew up there in the 1970s." I will say that these things he talks about are also familiar to those of us who grew up in the 50's. I played on FIBRO instead of his Diamond Expansion Bolt. My stadium was Bell on South Avenue instead of the "new one" that I believe is at the end of Spruce Avenue. My memories are vivid of my "Hometown". I will now search for, purchase and read his stories and books. It will be a pleasure to have his descriptions of "my" Garwood life mixed in with his. It will be fun to pick out what is "Garwood" from his descriptions. Fuel for the memory is a good "thing" when it nurtures thoughts of home.
Thanks for this article. I've sure enjoyed it.
