UPDATE: 'He Was Just Doing His Job'; FedEx Driver Struck & Killed in Colonia Accident

A Fedex driver was struck and killed by a van this morning in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. The driver who hit him was taken by helicopter to a New Brunswick trauma center

Woodbridge police confirmed that the driver of a FedEx truck was struck and killed by a van this morning in the Colonia section of Woodbridge. "He was just doing his job" when he was hit by the male driver of a minivan, said Woodbridge Police Captain Roy Hoppock. Even though the FedEx driver was hit, it was the driver of the other vehicle who was airlifted by a Medevac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Hoppock said. That driver, who hit the FedEx employee, suffered injuries that required his immediate transportation to Robert Wood Johnson Trauma Center in New Brunswick. He was airlifted there by Medevac. Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy Con Artist Spent Weeks Fooling Shelter Officials

Victims of Hurricane Sandy weren't the only ones taken in by David Scott Ruddy. A shelter survivor was the one who turned Ruddy in after officials ignored her pleas.

When David Scott Ruddy was arrested in Woodbridge for allegedly flimflamming Hurricane Sandy victims out of $50,000 in FEMA funds, there was one person who not only knew who he was, but had been calling and warning officials about him for months. That was Kathleen Marchitto, who met Ruddy first at a shelter put up at an Old Bridge school, and then later when she and other hurricane victims were moved to the Red Cross shelter set up at Livingston College of Rutgers University in Piscataway. Marchitto, whose South River apartment was flooded during the October hurricane, was at the Livingston College shelter for three weeks, and for the entire time she was there, Ruddy was there. "I knew there was something about him I didn't like. He was …

Hostage-Taking Shoplifter Shot and Killed at Woodbridge Sears

A reported shoplifter who took a hostage was killed at Sears in Woodbridge Center late this afternoon.

A would-be shoplifter who was shot and killed today by an off-duty policeman at Sears in Woodbridge Center caused over a dozen Woodbridge police cars to fly to the mall and seal off the crime scene today. The alleged shoplifter, who was reportedly caught by store security on the second floor of the Sears store, fought back when he was apprehended around 5 p.m., a mall source said. The shoplifter then grabbed a nearby female shopper and held her at knifepoint. An off-duty police officer who was shopping in the store allegedly shot and killed the shoplifter, the source said. News12 later reported that the off-duty officer was a Woodbridge police officer. The hostage was unharmed. By 5:30 p.m., at least a dozen marked and unmarked Woodbridge …

Wow, how horrible for all those involved. There are many things that go on in malls that are not reported but this is beyond. I hope there is NO backlash about this off duty officer jumping in and doing what unfortunately needed to be done in the heat of the moment. In a perfect world it wouldn't have to happen, we're not there yet obviously. My husband works in a mall in North Jersey and there's…   more ›
