Valley Road School Has Its First Talent Show

Students played musical instruments, hula hooped, danced, sang and performed comedy.

This press release was provided by Valley Road School. Valley Road Elementary School in Clark, held their first Variety Show featuring many of its students from grades ranging from Kindergarten through Fifth proving that students in "VRS-Got Talent." Students played musical instruments, hula hooped, danced, sang, and performed comedy. Everyone who attended was astounded by the range of talent that was on display. Students not only performed on stage, but behind the scenes as well. Fourth grade students Michelle Kukan and Sara Hilton played a large role in getting the show underway by working as stage crew members for the night's performances. This was not the first VRS talent show. There were talent shows annually in the 1990's under the direction of teacher Gail Lombardi and PTA President Antoinette Zieser. Many good memories and great talent! Glad to see they are doing it again!   more ›

Valley Road Students Hop Into Spring Break

Students learned about spring and all of the animals that start to come out of hibernation after winter.

This release was submitted by the Clark School District. Students in Ms. Grigoli's class at Valley Road School in Clark prepare for spring break by making bunny rabbit hats. Students learned about spring and all of the animals that start to come out of hibernation after winter. The week was filled with activities and interactive games on spring and the Easter Holiday coming up. We read the story of "Peter Cottontail" and sang the song to go along with it. We culminated the holiday activity with an Easter Egg hunt for our new classroom bunnies. Clark Students Celebrate 100th Day of School

Students at Hehnly and Valley Road celebrated the first triple-digit day.

This release was submitted by the Clark School District. Mrs. Venezio's second grade class at Hehnly School recently celebrated the 100th day of school. When students came in they were greeted with a sticker and a bracelet that read "I am a 100 day smart cookie." Their classroom door had a sign in the doorway that said "we are 100 days smarter" with streamers hanging down that the kids walked through. Our activities for the day included 100 minutes of reading, writing and spelling 100 kind words, writing 100 word stories, and completing an "I'm a smart cookie" activity where they wrote down what they could now do compared to the first day of school. Valley Road School Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Students had sessions dedicated to three important aspects of Dr. King’s beliefs: diversity, service and acceptance.

This release was submitted by Valley Road School. This past Monday, January 21, 2013, Valley Road School in Clark honored Martin Luther King Jr. Day by devoting the afternoon to activities revolving around Dr. King’s teachings. With the help of the Olweus Committee and K-Kids, Miss Ashley Aligo, the Guidance Counselor, set up three separate sessions dedicated to three important aspects of Dr. King’s beliefs: Diversity, Service, and Acceptance. Every class was paired up with their buddy class for each of the sessions. During the “Diversity” session, teachers read the book “The Crayon Box That Talked,” written by Shane Derolf, to their classes. This book teaches children a valuable lesson on diversity. [PHOTOS] Valley Road Kindergarteners Build Gingerbread Houses

Parents helped, too!

Release submitted by the Clark Schools District. Kindergarteners in Meghan Zampella’s class at Valley Road School in Clark spent their Friday afternoon building gingerbread houses with their parents. Students read and compared a variety of gingerbread books throughout the week, painted gingerbread glyphs, and finished the week by inviting their parents in to help them craft their own holiday gingerbread houses. Students iced milk cartons and covered them in graham crackers, cereal, and candy.

New Clark Schools Guidance Counselor Meets Students' Parents

Ashley Aligo is the new couselor at Frank K. Hehnly and Valley Road School.

Release submitted by the Clark School District Miss Ashley Aligo, the new Guidance Counselor at Frank K. Hehnly School and Valley Road School, had the pleasure of attending her first Winter Concert in the Clark School District this past Thursday night. Miss Aligo had the opportunity to meet and talk with many of the parents at Valley Road School before the concert. “ I had a great time introducing myself and getting to know the parents at Valley Road School as they walked into the concert to find their seats. I am very excited to begin working with the families in this district,” Miss Aligo stated. [PHOTO] Valley Road Kindergarteners Have a Grinch Day

Students read the Dr. Seuss classic and wore green to school.

This release was submitted by Valley Road School. Meghan Zampella’s kindergarten class at Valley Road School in Clark spent the day experiencing How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss. They came to school wearing green and started by coloring the Grinch and doing a Grinch maze, word search, and dot to dot. Then students listened to the book and made a chart of words to describe Mr. Grinch. The class worked together to make a book, each student created their own page of what they did not want Mr. Grinch to steal from them. To finish off the day students traced and cut out the Grinch and then drew and wrote what they would give the Grinch to make him grin.

Valley Road School Kindergarteners Pick a Mascot

The blue jay beat out a monkey, ostrich or kangaroo.

This release was submitted by the Clark School District. Ms. Zampella’s Kindergarten Class at Valley Road School in Clark had the opportunity to vote for what animal will be their class mascot. Students had the choice of a monkey, an ostrich, a kangaroo, and a blue jay. The blue jay won out by one vote over the monkey. Students then suggested names for the blue jay and cast a second vote. Buddy the Blue Jay is the new class mascot. He watches over the class during the week and gets to go on adventures home with his classmates over the weekend. Students were excited to be involved in the decisions and can’t wait until it is their turn to take Buddy home.

Valley Road Fifth Graders Write Poetry About 9/11

Teacher Olivia Gerlitz created a book from the students' poems.

This press release was submitted by the Clark School District. After learning about the events that took place on September 11th, 2001, students in Ms. Olivia Gerlitz’s 5th grade class at Valley Road School in Clark created original poems. The fifth graders used their creativity to honor those that we lost that day and the heroes that so bravely severed our country. “Students truly used the poems to express their feelings. Their messages were heartfelt and moving.” said Ms. Gerlitz. She has taken their poems and created a book to share with their families.

Valley Road School Fourth Graders Meet Their New Teacher

Christine Cemelli is a 2012 graduate of Towson University.

Fourth grade students and their parents at the Valley Road School in Clark had the opportunity to meet their new fourth grade teacher, Ms. Christine Cemelli, at an evening Meet and Greet on Monday Evening, 27 August. Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Knops, Director of Curriculum Ed Grande, and Valley Road School Principal Joseph Beltramba facilitated the evening, where a packed room of over 20 fourth graders and their parents had the opportunity to meet their new teacher.
