What Should Take Precision Press's Place in Garwood?

Hey Garwood, what would you put there? In our series, we ask for your vision for vacant properties.

What does Center Street need? In our series, we ask what you'd put in the available spaces in Clark and Garwood. In this installment, we ask what you'd put in Precision Press's place at 110 Center Street in Garwood. Precision Press isn't closing, but is moving out of this location. According to the property's listing agent, Alan Rasmussen of Coldwell Banker, the space boasts roughly 3,800-square feet with a small office and three larger rooms with 13-foot ceilings. Rasmussen also notes that the property has great visibility between the post office and borough hall. "I call it a two unit retail building because it could be split into two units," Rasmussen told Patch. The property is listed for $550,000 and the taxes are $14,304. The space…

What Should Take the Old A&P's Place in Clark?

In this series, we ask for your vision for vacant properties.

What does Westfield Avenue need? In our new series, we ask what you'd put in the available spaces in Clark and Garwood. In this edition, we tackle the old A&P property at 52 Westfield Avenue in Clark. This Westfield Avenue supermarket was closed several years ago as the much larger A&P Fresh opened on Raritan Road. The property includes the 24,500-square-foot building, plus about 100 parking spaces. The vacant building has been a point of contention, and Mayor Sal Bonaccorso has been vocal about his frustrations with the empty space in such a high-profile location. According to listing agent Jason Gerbsman of Welco Realty, A&P's existing lease had not expired and the supermarket chain was not able to secure a renter for the remainder of …

No, Janet! I was really quite shocked (and miffed) in fact to hear absolutely nothing back. I called and emailed her multiple times over the course of two months and could not get her or anyone else on the phone. Guess they've got bigger and more important things to worry about then returning calls from journalists. Hmpf.   more ›

What Should Take the U.S. Gypsum Factory's Place in Clark?

In this series, we ask for your vision for vacant properties.

What does Raritan Road need? In our new series, we ask what you'd put in the available spaces in Clark and Garwood. In this edition, we tackle the former U.S. Gypsum paper manufacturing plant on Raritan Road, across from Hyatt Hills Golf Complex and Senorita's Mexican Grill. The factory was built in 1947 and operated as a paper manufacturer until its shuttering in August 2009. It has been on the market for the past six months. Mindy Lissner of CBRE Global Commercial Real Estate is the listing agent for the property. "It’s been pursued by a number of people looking to redevelop," says Lissner. "We've had a good amount of interest. It would likely be sold for an alternative use, as the factory itself is antiquated." Lissner says most of the …

Movie theater other than an AMC Lowes owned would be phenomenal. It may shed a light of artistry rather than corporate domination. @Diane, PLENTY of people go to theaters regardless of Netflix (not flex) - But Rahway is building a beautiful theater on Hamilton Street that is going to knock the socks off people who are into the arts, along with designated artist space living and Broadway costume …   more ›

What Should Take the Blue Collar Inn's Place in Garwood?

In our new series, we ask for your vision for vacant properties.

What does South Avenue need? In our new series, we ask what you'd put in the available spaces in Clark and Garwood. In our second installment, we ask what you'd put in the old Blue Collar Inn's place at 607 South Avenue (at the corner of Maple Avenue) in Garwood. The property has an infamous history: In 2003, the NJ Division of Criminal Justice busted a $100,000-a-month mafia gambling operation there, connected to the New York-based Genovese crime family, according to a report from the Star-Ledger. The report says the Blue Collar Inn housed an operation where "mobsters would give 'loans' that carried interest rates as high as 156 percent." The property has been vacant since the bust, the empty restaurant and bar a haunting reminder of …
