Vera Pecoraro Homicide Investigation is Ongoing, Says Prosecutor's Office

The Union County Homicide Task Force reports they are currently working to examine evidence and sort through statements.

Now nearly three months after the death of Clark's Vera Pecoraro, the Union County Prosecutor's Office reports that the investigation into the homicide is ongoing and encourages anyone with information that may help identify Pecoraro's murderers to come forward. "The investigation continues," a spokesperson from the Prosecutor's Office told Patch on Thursday. "With any homicide there are a number of factors to consider and explore. The members of the Union County Homicide Task Force are working to examine evidence and sort through statements and other relevant information. Now more than a month after the death of Clark's Vera Pecoraro, the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Clark Police Department report that the investigation into the homicide is ongoing and they have no more information to release as of yet. Pecoraro, 73, was found with her throat slit on July 7 at her home on Rolling Hill Way in Clark. Police say there was no sign of forced entry into the home and they believe she knew her attacker. VIDEO: Clark Police Captain Discusses Homicide at Council Meeting, Investigation Ongoing

At Tuesday night's Clark Council meeting, Clark Police Captain and Officer-in-Charge Alan Scherb discussed the homicide investigation into the death of Vera Pecoraro on July 7. Pecoraro was found with her throat slit on a couch in the home she lived in alone on Rolling Hill Way. Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said at a press conference that the scene showed no sign of forced entry and that investigators believe the attack was targeted and Pecoraro knew her attacker. Clark Homicide Investigation Continues, Police Awaiting Forensic Evidence Results

The Union County Homicide Task Force has been working through the night as they continue their investigation into the death of Vera Pecoraro while also working two other active homicide investigations in the county – the shooting death of a Linden teen and the stabbing of a 17-year-old during a large fight in Rahway. According to the Union County Prosecutor's office, police still have not ruled out anyone as a suspect and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are also awaiting the results of forensic evidence that was collected from the crime scene. The Prosecutor's Office had no other developments to report at this time. Lawyer Says Pecoraro's Sons Were Close With Their Mother, Are Fully Cooperating With Police

Matthew Dorsi, lawyer for Michael and Theodore Pecoraro, says the two are fully cooperating with the investigation into their mother's homicide. Vera Pecoraro was found with her throat slit on Saturday at her home on Rolling Hill Way in Clark. Services Announced for Vera Pecoraro, Woman Found Slain in Rolling Hill Way Home

Visitation will be held Tuesday, funeral Wednesday from Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home in Clark to St. Agnes Church to St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.

According to the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home website, services for Vera Pecoraro, the 73-year-old woman found slain in her Rolling Hill Way home on Saturday, will be as follows: Elvira "Vera" J. Pecoraro, 74, of Clark, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral from the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, on Wednesday, July 11 at 8:45 am, thence to St. Agnes RC Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:45 am. VIDEO: More Details on Weapon, Crime Scene, Motives in Clark Homicide

Vera Pecoraro was found with her throat slit by a serrated knife. Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said that authorities believe the incident was a targeted attack and not a robbery.

Of the most interesting details released at Monday's press conference, Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow said that Saturday would have been the victim's 74th birthday. Romankow said Clark resident Vera Pecoraro (born July 7, 1938) was discovered by her son Anthony, who entered the home at 15 Rolling Hill Way on her birthday after he had not heard from his mother. When police were called to the scene around 7 p.m., they found Pecoraro on her couch in the living room of her home, where she lived alone, her throat cut with a serrated knife that was found nearby. Romankow said they believe the attack happened sometime on Friday.  "She was dressed in her night clothes," said Romankow. Mayor Says Homicide is Isolated Incident, Prosecutor's Office to Hold Press Conference at 1 P.M.

Mayor says home showed no signs of forced entry and that the victim, Vera Pecoraro, was "a wonderful lady."

In the wake of Saturday night's homicide of Vera Pecoraro, an elderly woman of 15 Rolling Hill Way in Clark, Mayor Sal Bonaccorso wants to assure residents that this case is an isolated incident. "The home showed no signs of forced entry," Bonaccorso told Patch. "I want the citizens to rest assured that we do not have a murderer running loose throughout the community. I have been in contact with Prosecutor Romankow and he assured me that there is no reason to believe this was someone randomly doing this."
