NJ Transit Heightens Security in Response to Explosions at Boston Marathon

Additional officers, both in uniform and dressed in plain clothes, will patrol the transit system, according to spokesperson.

NJ Transit is in a "heightened state of alert" in response to several explosions reported at the Boston Marathon this afternoon, according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durso, Jr. “While there has been no specific threat made to our transit system at this time, NJ Transit police have deployed both uniformed and plain clothed officers to further patrol our system and keep our customers safe," Durso said in a press release.  At least two people were killed and numerous people were injured in Boston this afternoon when there were  two explosions within a mile of the Boston Marathon's finish line, according to Back Bay Patch. Another explosion was reported at the John F. NJ Transit to Offer Cross-Honoring Options During Storm

Cross-honoring lasts from Wednesday, 2 p.m. until the end of the day Thursday.

New Jersey Transit will offer systemwide cross-honoring from Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. until the end of the day Thursday, March 7 due to the coming storm, NJ Transit announced Tuesday afternoon. Customers will be able to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station, and customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead, NJ Transit officials said. UPDATE: Following inspections, NJ Transit announced all rail services will be restored as of noon Saturday.  ORIGINAL: Bus service in northern and central New Jersey has been restored as of 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Feb. 9, New Jersey Transit announced Saturday morning. All bus service in Mercer County and along the Route 9 corridor was restored as of 7 a.m., and remaining bus services were restored by 8 a.m. NJ Transit advises there will still be service delays and detours due to road conditions. Customers should leave plenty of time for travel. Rail and light rail service remain suspended while a full assessment is conducted, according to NJ Transit. NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. Four NJ Transit Rail Lines to Re-Open Sunday Morning

The Main/Port Jervis line will resume limited service Sunday morning, originating and terminating in Secaucus.

NJ Transit will resume service on four more rail lines Sunday morning, including the Main/Port Jervis and North Jersey Coast lines, the governor's office announced Saturday night. Also starting service will be the Raritan Valley and Atlantic City lines. With the Hoboken terminal having sustained significant flood damage in Monday's storm, the Main/Port Jervis line trains will start and end in Secaucus. The Main Line will run from Suffern to Secaucus making all local stops, while the Port Jervis line will run from Port Jervis to Secaucus making all local stops via Main Line. UPDATED: Majority of NJ Transit Bus Service to Resume Thursday

More than 80 bus lines will resume service on Thursday in New Jersey.

NJ TRANSIT has announced that the majority of its bus lines will begin running on Thursday, as well as limited Access Link service.  The bus lines are part of a slow but steady restart of NJ TRANSIT's service following Hurricane Sandy, announced the same day as the 3 p.m. restoration of service on the River Line light rail between the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden and Trenton Transit Center.  “This is tremendous progress,” said Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chairman James Simpson in a press release. “We are not out of the woods by any stretch, but we will continue working around the clock to further restore service where we can safely do so. NJ Transit Prepares for Possible Monday Shutdown

The state has announced that NJ Transit rail and buses may be fully shut down on Monday in advance of Hurricane Sandy.

Gov. Chris Christie's office has announced that preparations have begun to potentially shut down NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail and bus service as of Monday, in advance of Hurricane Sandy. According to a press release from the governor's office, shutting down NJ TRANSIT services will take at least 12 hours. During the shutdown, all buses and trains will be moved out of areas at risk of flooding. The shutdown is precautionary, and it is still unsure how long service will be suspended for, the release said.
