Marine Sgt. Michael Brattole Honored at ALJ Hockey Alumni Game

Sgt. Michael Brattole was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.

On the ice again Wednesday night, Michael Brattole lifted his #28 jersey up proudly. Things for Brattole were much different in November of 2010, when the 22-year-old Marine was hit with a grenade that tore through his chest while he was leading a patrol in Afghanistan. After many surgeries, the shrapnel from the grenade was removed from his legs, heart and arms. At Warinanco Skate Rink in Roselle, Brattole and other players, spectators and  Arthur L. Johnson high school alums gathered for the 20th annual Alumni hockey game. Marine Sgt. Michael Brattole to be Honored at ALJ Alumni Hockey Match, Dec. 26

Brattole's varsity number will officially be retired and he will be given his varsity jersey as a memento from his teammates.

The phone call that came around 10 p.m. on a late November 2010 Friday at the Brattole home in Clark delivered devastating news: 22-year-old Marine Sgt. Michael Brattole was fighting for his life after a grenade tore through his chest while he was leading a patrol in Afghanistan. The ceremony to honor 22-year-old Marine Sergeant Michael Brattole will be held Wednesday evening, December 26th, at Warinanco Skate Rink in Roselle.   Sgt. Brattole is a Clark native, 2006 graduate of ALJ High School, and a former member of its varsity hockey team. This Johnson Crusader was seriously injured in November 2010 when a grenade tore through his chest while he was leading a patrol in Afghanistan. Sgt.
