Union County Represents at Komen Race

The annual event drew some 5,000 breast cancer survivors and their supporters. Three Union County residents were top finishers.

After days of fog and rain, the sun emerged on Sunday at 8 a.m., just in time to greet the breast cancer survivors and their supporters at the Susan G. Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure at the South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange. Some 5,000 strong, the crowd of women, children and men browsed informational tents, played games, ate, danced to the live music on the stage, and greeted one another with hugs and tears. Many also ran the 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) race. New Providence resident Sherry Peterson placed first in the survivor category with a time of 25 minutes flat. Sherry's daughter — Kirsten Peterson — was the second place female finisher overall with a time of 21 minutes, 38 seconds. The second place survivor also …
