Clark School District Sees Slight Increase in State Aid, Garwood's Aid Will Stay Flat

State aid numbers were released Thursday afternoon.

The Clark School District will receive $2,264 more in state aid than it did last year, while Garwood's aid will remain the same, according to the NJ Department of Education, which released state aid numbers Thursday afternoon. According to the NJ Department of Education's website, Gov. Chris Christie's proposed budget includes nearly $9 billion in state aid, an increase of $97.3 million over Fiscal Year 2013. "Throughout my time in office I have continuously argued that in order to grow New Jersey's economy we must invest in education, and my proposed budget is a reflection of my commitment to our educational system and communities across the state," said Christie. Clark and Garwood Schools Counsel Students, Address Safety Concerns in Wake of Newtown Tragedy

Both districts reached out to parents on Sunday to address concerns and share plans for responding to the tragedy.

Monday was not in easy day for educators. As students headed to school in the wake of Friday's Newtown tragedy, administrators and faculty at Clark and Garwood schools talked to students, provided counseling and reassured parents about school safety procedures. In Garwood, Superintendent Dr. Teresa Quigley said faculty worked hard at having a normal school day. "A regular routine is very important to children and it can help alleviate their fears," Quigley told Patch. "As a nation and school district we will being dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy for many months to come. I am going to continue to keep parents updated via email with resources that are available to them." Clark School District Staff to Present at Statewide Conference

The New Jersey School Boards Association Workshop takes place in Atlantic City this October.

This press release was submitted by the Clark School District. Each October the largest professional workshop for educators takes place in Atlantic City, the New Jersey School Boards Association Workshop; visited by approximately 10,000 educational leaders representing superintendents, board of education members, and other school leaders. Clark Kicks Off School Year at Superintendent's Convocation

District students go back to school on Thursday, Sept. 6.
