Aficiandos of Hess toy trucks can rest assured that Christmas sales of their toy trucks will continue at the corporation's convenience stores.
Recent headlines announcing Hess Corporation's exit from the energy marketing and refining end of its global business will not affect what is perhaps its second-most-coveted consumer item after the petrol: the Hess Toy Truck. "The toy trucks which have been a tradition for 48 years will continue," a Hess spokesperson said, adding that "this November, the company will continue to sell the trucks at their stores." Hess spokesman Dennis Moynihan wants it made clear: Hess is not closing the convenience stores that operate along with their gas stations. "What does that mean? We're not closing our convenience stores," Moynihan said Tuesday in an effort to clarify the record. The Woodbridge-based oil business will now divest itself of 1,350 gas stations, many of which operate in New Jersey and 17 other Eastern Seaboard states.
The familiar green and white Hess signs that dot the Woodbridge landscape and much of New Jersey may soon be no more. Hess Corporation announced Monday in a letter to shareholders at their annual meeting that it was divesting itself of its retail gasoline and convenience store operations, in an effort to restructure the company and improve its balance sheet. The move will affect 1,350 gas stations - many owned by Hess itself - that operate in 18 states on the Eastern Seaboard. The gas stations serve as many as 1.3 million customers a day, according to a report in Supermarket News. Thousands of pounds of Applegate chicken and apple sausage produced by Schmalz's European Provisions are being sent back to the plant
The meat products produced by a Springfield company is the subject of a USDA food recall. Schmalz's European Provisions, based in Springfield, is recalling approximately 8,424 pounds of chicken and apple sausage that may contain small pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday. Twelve-ounce vacuum packages of "Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage" with "Use or Freeze By 03/17/13" on each package are being recalled. The recalled product bears the establishment number "P-5411" inside the USDA mark of inspection, FSIS said in a statement. They're almost there, said the PSEG president in what will be the last of the hurricane media conferences.
It's day 12 since Hurricane Sandy hit, and PSEG has hit a milestone. The company says it has restored electricity to 98 percent of their customers in their service area, and they're hoping to make it 100 percent by Saturday. Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of the company, said in a media update conference call -- the last he hopes he'll be having to discuss Hurricane Sandy and the nor'easter that tore through the area Wednesday -- that even with service restoration, the work isn't over yet. He gave a big thanks to the 4,500 linemen who poured into New Jersey from all over the country to supplement PSEG's own crews. The two central New Jersey counties had the highest impact from Wednesday's storm that brought heavy, wet snow and downed power lines to the area.
Middlesex and Mercer Counties took the brunt of Nor'easter Athena's heavy, sodden snow Wednesday, said Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of PSE&G in a morning conference call. LaRossa said he had had a meeting with mayors from the area in East Brunswick yesterday when a 69,000 volt line in the substation there blew but was quickly repaired. As of Thursday morning, 40,000 PSE&G customers were impacted by up to six inches of snow from the nor'easter, while 70,000 customers were still suffering from the lack of electricity from Hurricane Sandy last week. Hurricane Sandy may help New Jersey survive the nor'easter scheduled to hit the state Wednesday. That's because, with all the Sandy power outages, PSE&G president and chief operating officer Ralph LaRossa called in the cavalry - that is, linemen and workers from other states who flooded into the state to help restore power. Just Tuesday, LaRossa spoke on a media conference call and trumpeted that the company obtained the services of another 600 linemen, coming in from Pennsylvania, just last night. "We got them to work quickly," LaRossa said. As of today, there are 3,900 outside personnel to bolster the 700 PSE&G workers trying to turn the power back on since Hurricane Sandy hit last week. One of six medical marijuana clinics in the state will be situated in Woodbridge, and it could be just four months away from opening. Compassionate Care Centers of New Jersey, which has been trolling about for a town in central New Jersey to host a medical marijuana dispensary, bought the defunct 6th Avenue Electronics store on Route 1, according to a report on nj.com, with plans to turn it into a warehouse to grow and sell the plant. The pot purveyors purchased the electronics store building last week for $2.75 million, nj.com reported, saying the buy had been in the works for over a year, even though 6th Avenue Electronics only went out of business last October. Patrons of Ponte Vecchio, the restaurant located in New Providence's Murray Hill Inn, don’t have to travel any further than the inn’s front desk for a bottle of wine to go with dinner. Bill Boyle, owner of Boyle Hotels and Best Western PLUS Murray Hill Inn and Suites, said the inn does have a retail wine license arrangement through Amalthea Cellars, which is a certified New Jersey winery that has won international competitions.
