Two groups of Arthur L. Johnson's Advanced TV class students have moved on to the final phase of a video PSA contest for Prevention Links.
This release was received from ALJ's Advanced TV Instructor Phil Scardilli. Two groups of Arthur L. Johnson's Advanced TV class students have moved on to the finalist phase of a video PSA contest for Prevention Links on the theme of teens and drinking. The contest is open to schools in Union County. They can move up to the next phase if they receive enough online votes. The website to view and vote for the videos is: http://preventionlinks.org/psa/ The ALJ entries are PSA Finalist-5 and PSA Finalist-6 The submissions have been chosen as two of the top six finalists. Johnson High School senior Alison Dugan was honored at the Clark Board of Education’s “Showcase of Success” on April 9th for her selection to cheer in the National Football League’s Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii. Alison was called to the podium at the Board of Education Meeting by Superintendent Kenneth Knops, who extolled her numerous accomplishments not only as a cheerleader, but as a student and altruistic member of the community. Senior Joseph Bonaccorso was honored during the Board of Education’s Showcase of Success.

Johnson High School, was honored by the Clark Board of Education on the evening of April 9th, during the Board of Education’s Showcase of Success. Joseph was honored for his attainment of a top score of 800 on attaining a perfect score of 800 on the SAT II United States History assessment. This release was received from the Clark School District. On Thursday, March 21, 2013, the Arthur L. Johnson Athletic Department held their 2012 – 2013 Winter Athletic Awards. The evening, sponsored by the Crusader Athletic Booster Club, was held in the Arthur L. Johnson Auditorium. All the Winter Athletic Teams and their seasons were highlighted by their coaches while handing out letters and awards to the student athletes. Head Football Coach Michael Mancino presided over the event as all athletes were honored for their contributions to Crusader Football. In addition, numerous scholarships were awarded to deserving student athletes throughout the evening. The night culminated with the showing of the 2012 Crusader Football Team’s highlights. This release was submitted by the Clark Schools District. The Arthur L. Johnson Varsity Bowling Team is on a “roll” again! For the 3rd straight season Johnson has won two titles and is ranked #6 in the Star Ledger’s Top 20 poll. At the end of regular season play Johnson clinched the Watchung Conference title and finished with a record of 12-1 losing only to Linden the #2 team in Union County. This year Johnson also won the Union County Championship, also a “three-peat” performance. The crusade was led by Seniors Vincent DiGeronimo, Captain Danny Levitz and Junior Steven Kotowski all whom also qualified for the UCT individual tournament. This release was submitted by the Clark School District. On Sunday January 27, 2013 ALJ HS Senior Cheerleader, Alison Dugan, was one of seventy All-Americans to cheer in the NFL Pro-Bowl. This All-American Cheer and Dance (AACD) group of talented athletes performed during the pre-game and half time show. Ali was nominated in April 2012 for the Pro Bowl tour by her competitive all star cheerleading team, NJ Heat, and was selected by AACD at a competition in Hershey, PA. While in Hawaii, Ali and 29 other athletes qualified to compete for a national scholarship. Ali competed in the Cheer and Tumble division and was judged on an individually performed routine. The school made a huge leap up the list from its 2010 ranking.
Arthur L. Johnson High School was recently ranked number 40 among 328 public high schools in the state by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. ALJ rose dramatically in the rankings since 2010, when the magazine last published this list, where the school was number 101. In the 2008 list, ALJ came in at number 95. NJ Monthly Magazine’s 2012 rankings of the top public high school will be featured in the September issue, which hits newsstands on Aug. 28. The Arthur L. Johnson class of ’61 celebrated their 50th reunion recently. The reunion team worked hard and had fun locating and contacting classmates; their efforts resulted in an event-filled weekend. A 50/50 raffle, held during the dinner dance, dedicated the proceeds to inaugurating an Alumni Scholarship Fund. At a celebration luncheon, the class of '61 presented the first check to Rick Delmonaco, Arthur L. Johnson High School principal. The group hopes that the Alumni Scholarship Fund will be sustained through the continuing contributions of alumni, individually or collectively through alumni events.
