Johnson High School junior Jeffrey Corson was honored at the Clark Board of Education’s recent April 9th meeting for his achievement of attaining a perfect score of 800 on the Mathematics section of his PSAT assessment, At the Board of Education’s Showcase of Success, Director of Curriculum Ed Grande introduced Jeffrey to the assemblage, lauding him for attaining a perfect 800 score on the PSAT. Grande also commented on Jeffrey’s altruistic orientation, citing the fact that Jeffrey is a member of the St. Agnes Church CYO where he has participated in a food drive among other activities. "High energy, funny and audience interactive," is how Director (not to mention, Arthur L. Johnson Teacher of the Year) Peter Nevargic describes "Godspell," the high school's spring musical. The pop-rock musical is based on the gospels according to St. Matthew, telling the story of Jesus and his disciplines' last days leading up to his crucifiction. "But it's done in very theatrical, very tongue-in-cheek way," says Nevargic. "I hesitate to tell people it's based on gospels because it doesn't proselytize. It's very nondenominational. It's really like a big party on stage. Johnson High School in Clark took a field trip to Manhattan to visit a garment center showroom and take a tour of the Fashion Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. There was a new exhibit which just opened called Fashion & Technology. The museum was very informative and filled with all kinds of new technology being implemented in the fashion industry.

Media Specialist Kate Ryan and English Teacher Regina Rufrano are co-advisors for the club, which meets after school. “During our meetings we discuss literature, share book recommendations, and explore new genres. Our mission is to help each member grow as a reader in a relaxed and accepting environment. We read a different book every month ranging from young adult literature, to non-fiction, to graphic novels, and more” said Ryan. The evening, sponsored by the Crusader Athletic Booster Club, was held in the Arthur L. Johnson Auditorium. All the Fall Athletic Teams and their seasons were highlighted by their coaches while handing out letters and awards to the student athletes. Over 160 varsity athletic letters were handed out throughout the evening, as participation in athletics at Arthur L. Johnson High School continues to grow. This release was submitted by ALJ. The Arthur L. Johnson community launched a joint effort in providing aid to all of those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The ALJ Student Council is organizing this relief effort with the support of the Key Club. Over the next week, a blood drive, food and clothing drive will take place at Arthur L. Johnson High School. We are looking for the entire community to help donate to those affected by the storm. Johnson High School in Clark created collages to represent what they believe will be the current fall/winter trends for 2012. This press release was submitted by the Clark School District. Students in Cristina Faro’s seventh grade mathematics classes at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School have the opportunity to use SMART Response technology as a part of the new Progressive Math Initiative (PMI) curriculum being used in all mathematics classrooms this year. Each student is assigned a SMART Responder, which is used to answer questions electronically throughout the lesson to evaluate student progress on various topics and units. During the first week of school, students practiced using the responders to answer multiple choice, true or false, and numerical answer questions. The students were very excited at the opportunity to use the responders and the new program.
