Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Tim Pernetti, 42, was first appointed to lead the athletics program at Rutgers in 2009.
UPDATE, 1:45 p.m., Friday: Tim Pernetti has officially resigned. In a letter to Rutgers University President Robert Barchi, Pernetti blamed the university for overriding his decision to immediately fire Mike Rice. Embattled Athletic Director Tim Pernetti is out at Rutgers. Sources told ESPN Friday that Pernetti had been forced out as A.D. Pernetti, 42, was born in Teaneck, raised in Wyckoff and currently is an Oakland resident. He is a graduate of Ramapo High School. One local educator and Rutgers graduate calls situation "embarrassing. " What do you think? Sound off in the comments below the article.
After less than a day of deflecting a storm of bad press surrounding head basketball coach Mike Rice's coaching methods, Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti has confirmed that Rice has been fired. Rutgers Athletics said Rice's termination was based on the recent "issues" as well as "a review of previously discovered issues." “I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” Pernetti said, in a prepared statement. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Moving forward, I will work to regain the trust of the Rutgers community.” Interviewed by Barnegat-Manahawkin Patch today, Barnegat High School's Varsity …

James, Why belittle another sport (which I dislike, by the way) in order to make your point? And all my point was that the attempt to market MLS as "major league," given the premiere leagues already in places--a number in Europe--was, to me, a waste of time.
