Union County Slips in Kids Count Rankings

Union County fell from number 8 in the state to 9, though the news isn't all bad.

Union County's overall position dropped in the most recent New Jersey Kids County rankings, falling one spot among the state's 21 counties from eighth place last year to ninth. But data from the annual survey, which was accumulated by Advocates for Children of New Jersey and measures progress in improving the lives of children in 13 critical areas, found that despite some issues the news isn't all bad for Union County's school-aged children. Union County's one-spot slip is likely the result of an increase in unemployment as well as a drop in child care options for working parents. Despite the fewer child care options, however, which dropped from 675 per 1,000 children up to four years old in 2011 to 665 in 2013, Union County still has more…

Clark Preschool Has Openings For 2013-14 School Year

The preschool program is open to children who turn 3 or 4 by Oct. 1, 2013.

This release was submitted by Clark Preschool. Clark Preschool currently has openings for enrollment for the 2013 – 2014 school year. Clark Preschool is a general education preschool program available for children who turn ages 3 – 4, by October 1, 2013. Full day classes meet Monday through Friday from September 6, 2013 – June 19, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Clark Preschool follows the Clark Public Schools calendar. Signing Day: Three ALJ Athletes to Play in College

Seniors Ryan Baron and Eddie Olenick will play football at Kutztown University, and Lauren Adamusik will continue her field hockey career at C.W. Post.

Johnson Athletic Teams participated in a signing day ceremony to honor their four years of service to Crusader Athletics and commemorate their signing of Nation Letters of Intent to play NCAA Collegiate Athletics.      Johnson Senior Student Athletes Lauren Adamusik, Ryan Baron, and Eddie Olenick signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level, where they will continue playing field hockey and football. Valley Road School Has Its First Talent Show

Students played musical instruments, hula hooped, danced, sang and performed comedy.

Valley Road Elementary School in Clark, held their first Variety Show featuring many of its students from grades ranging from Kindergarten through Fifth proving that students in "VRS-Got Talent." Students played musical instruments, hula hooped, danced, sang, and performed comedy. Everyone who attended was astounded by the range of talent that was on display. Students not only performed on stage, but behind the scenes as well. Fourth grade students Michelle Kukan and Sara Hilton played a large role in getting the show underway by working as stage crew members for the night's performances. Crusader Athletic Leadership Council Participates in Autism Awareness Day

ALJ students helped organize various activities to celebrate the day with Clark preschoolers.

[PHOTO] Kumpf School Donates to Meghan Rose Bradley Foundation

The Meghan Rose Bradley Foundation was established December 2004 in honor of the memory of Meghan Bradley, who passed away on November 7 after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

This release was provided by the Clark School District.   Teachers and staff at Carl H. Fun and Games After-School Club is a Hit at Kumpf

The club was created to promote student involvement in after school activities.

This release was received from the Clark School District. The  Fun and Games Club is an after school activity organized by teachers Jennifer Bartolomeo and Arielle Wegbreit at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark. It is a club for students of all ability levels. It is an exciting, interactive environment in which students come together in grades 6, 7, and 8 to share their love for fun and games. The club meets once a week with a varied array of students. While sign-in sheets are provided at every meeting, attendance is not taken to entice members to bring their friends along. Vote Now: ALJ Students are Finalists in 'Teens and Drinking' PSA Contest

Two groups of Arthur L. Johnson's Advanced TV class students have moved on to the final phase of a video PSA contest for Prevention Links.

This release was received from ALJ's Advanced TV Instructor Phil Scardilli. Two groups of Arthur L. Johnson's Advanced TV class students have moved on to the finalist phase of a video PSA contest for Prevention Links on the theme of teens and drinking. The contest is open to schools in Union County. They can move up to the next phase if they receive enough online votes.
