Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? Here are new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.

Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbecue experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party.   Here's their tips on how to save money on your Memorial Day feast. 1. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled rib eye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbecue grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but …

Yankees Help Bring New Rival for Red Bulls

New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.

The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. James, Why belittle another sport (which I dislike, by the way) in order to make your point? And all my point was that the attempt to market MLS as "major league," given the premiere leagues already in places--a number in Europe--was, to me, a waste of time. Bonaccorso reflects on the murder of Clark resident Joseph Galfy and the recent robbery of Investors Savings Bank.

Mayor Sal Bonaccorso took a moment during Monday night's council meeting to assure residents that Clark is a safe community, discussing the murder of Clark resident Joseph Galfy and the recent robbery of Investors Savings Bank. Regarding Galfy, the mayor said, "What happened is sad and shameful, but this was an insider, not a break in. This was someone brought into the home. I want to congratulate Chief Alan Scherb and the Union County Homicide Task Force for solving this crime within 48 hours, but what I do get alarmed about is what I'm reading on Facebook and different blogs that says, 'Oh my god, what's happening in Clark?'" The mayor continued, adding that a community is unsafe in his eyes when there is "gang activity, drive-bys, drug …

Jeff, you can be afraid; I will not let something that happened because of an unsafe practice (trolling) or the fact that the Parkway goes through Clark and those who stop in town just might not be "townies" who are safe and law-abiding. That's life; you teach your kids to be careful and wary of strangers and certainly not to hitchhike; that's about all you can do to ensure they are aware that …   more ›
