Halloween Bike Ride and Trunk-or-Treat, Garwood Candidates Debate, ALJ College Fair This Week

Garwood council candidates debate at the Pointe: 
All Garwood residents have been invited to attend a pre-election debate involving the three candidates for Borough Council and urged to suggest questions to be put to the participants. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Pointe, the condominium complex between Maple and Chestnut Streets. Proposed questions may be sent in advance to PointeForum@gmail.com.

Clark Rec/Clark PBA trunk or treat and haunted house at Robinson Plantation: 
Clark Recreation together with the Clark PBA will host the 1st Annual Trunk or Treat at ALJ High School in the parking lot on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. Cars will have their trunks open to give out treats to all children – free. Prizes will be given for best, scariest and original costumes. Then at 7 p.m. the Clark Recreation Department will host the 2nd annual Haunted House at the Robinson Plantation – 593 Madison Hill road – for a friendly fright – free apple cider, donuts and pumpkins. The walkthrough haunted house has a $5 admission charge. House will be open from 7 to 10 p.m., rain or shine. 

Halloween family bike ride and Trunk-or-Treat in Clark's Oak Ridge Park: On Sunday at 3 p.m. Please decorate your bikes and trunks. Easy ride for all. All ages are welcome. Bring your family and friends. Rain or shine. To register for this event: www.komennorthjersey.org or call 908-277-2904. 

Garwood's second-annual pumpkin carving contest: The Garwood Celebrations Committee will be conducting the Second Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest on Saturday from 4-5 p.m. outside of Lincoln School on Second Avenue. The street will be blocked for this event, which will be going on just prior to the Trick or Trunk event run by the PTA. Residents of all ages will be able to submit a pre-carved or decorated pumpkin for judging. All participants will receive a full size candy bar and have the chance of winning either a first or second place prize for their age group. 

College Fair at ALJ: On Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All students and parents welcomed. See a list of participating colleges, here.

Check out the newest Oh' Brian's: On Friday, Clark's Hyatt Hills Pub (formerly Senorita's) changes its name to Oh' Brian's On the Green, completing the restaurant's new ownership by Fanwood Oh' Brian's owner's Brian Costello and Brian Walter.

Wine tasting at Rosie's: On Wednesday, try "Bold and Beautiful" reds only for $40 per person at Rosie's Wine Bar in Garwood.

Clark council meets Monday: Council meets at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers above the police station. Check out the meeting agenda.

Garwood council meets Tuesday: 7 p.m. at Borough Hall. Agenda not yet posted.

This week at Crossroads: Thursday - Michael Graves from the Misfits; Saturday - Dramarama with special guests the Whirling Dervishes.

Clark Girls Softball League opens fall registration: The Clark Girls Softball League is happy to announce fall registration for the 2014 season will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at the Brewer Recreational Center. The 2014 season is slated to begin in March and runs to early June. The league is open to all girls in grades pre-K through 8, who reside in Clark, Garwood and Winfield, or who attend private school in Clark. This year, the league will open registration to girls who are four years old. Girls must be four by October 1.

Clark rec director to be honored: Clark Rec Director and UNICO President Ralph Bernardo will be honored along with several others at An Evening of Thanks, the first annual Union County Family Service Awards at the Galloping Hill Golf Club in Kenilworth. The Thursday event will recognize and honor individuals from different communities in Union County who serve families in need in extraordinary ways in their civic and private lives.

Breast cancer awareness blood drive: Donate to this Breast Cancer Awareness blood drive on Thursday at the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad building from 1:30 - 7:30 p.m. Every donor will receive a pink blood drop pin, pink arm bandage & Super Community Blood Drive wristband. Local author meet and greet at the Clark Library: Authors from NJ, PA, and NY visit the library and sign books. Authors range in all genres from YA to adult. Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Learn exercise for stress management at the Clark Library: On Monday at 3 p.m., physical Therapist Cherry Lacsina from the Kessler Rehabilitation Center will discuss the benefits of exercise for stress management. Registration is required.

Halloween Spooktacular at Parti-licious: On Friday at 5 p.m., join for some spooky fun featuring a live DJ, dancing, crafts, candy, contests and more.

Deutscher Club blood drive: On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donors will receive a Continental breakfast or a traditional German lunch. The Blood Center of North Jersey (BCNJ) will again be the collection agency. At this blood drive, the BCNJ is entering every donor into a drawing for the Super Bowl being held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. 

E-cycling at UC Vo-Tech: The County of Union will sponsor a recycling event for electronic equipment on Saturday, so Union County residents can get rid of unwanted computers, televisions and other electronic equipment in an environmentally proper manner. The special E-cycling event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Union County Vo-Tech campus located at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains. All residents of Union County are eligible to participate at no cost. There is a limit of six electronic items per car.
