Girl Scouts Honored for Work With Women's Shelter

The girls worked with the NJ Battered Women's Shelter to educate the public on the dangers of unhealthy relationships, dating violence and how they could get help if they found themselves in one of those situations.

Garwood Mayor Patricia Quattrocchi along with Troop Leader Diana Moore recently honored Girl Scout Troop 40446 – Jessica Moore, Elizabeth Archer, Samantha Wagner, Sara Bottge, Paige Cavaliere, Brianna Evelina, Jessie Friedman, Sydne Friedman, Keira Hackett, Daniella Pacella and Kelly Sullivan – on their Silver Award Achievement.

The girls worked with the NJ Battered Women's Shelter to educate the public on the dangers of unhealthy relationships, dating violence and how they could get help if they found themselves in one of those situations. They learned what their rights were in a relationship and worked on educating their fellow peers, as well as, the public on what to look for and who to contact if they needed help.

The girls also distributed flyers and hosted two separate presentations in their school to their fellow classmates and parents. They learned to crochet and made blankets for the shelter, collected and decorated flip flops for the shelter's kids, and baked to help with a fundraiser for the NJWBS. They also held a food drive and collected supplies for the shelter.
