Michael C. Denora Foundation to Host Comedy Fundraiser

The Michael C. Denora Foundation, which supports New Jersey children and families struggling with pediatric cancer, is hosting its third annual Comedy Night Benefit on October 13.

Michael Denora graduated from ALJ in 2003 with lots of hope for a bright future. Denora had battled pediatric cancer for 10 years and lost his battle in 2008.

As he grew into a young adult, his wish was to help other children battling the disease. In memory of Denora and to support his wishes, his friends and family established the Michael C. Denora Foundation in 2009.

“We donate locally, so there’s usually a face to the people we provide our funds to,” said Vice President Susan Stebbins, whose son had been best friends with Michael since fourth grade.

Thanks to the generosity of so many people, the foundation has been able to help local children battling cancer at the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic in New Brunswick. Among the recipients of donations was a high school student who missed his senior prom because he was in the hospital. The foundation helped transform a hospital room into a prom-like setting attended by his friends, family and hospital staff.

The foundation is partnered with Embrace Kids and supports a Thanksgiving Day Luncheon at the Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital for the children and families who can’t go home for Thanksgiving.
