Clark Relay For Life Raises $146K for American Cancer Society

The top individual fundraiser was Renee Sarnicki, who collected $12,656.81 in donations.

This year's American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Clark has raised $146,876.82 to support the society’s mission of saving lives from cancer.

“This left the Relay for Life of Clark Planning Committee exhausted, but happy, after walking a lot miles and putting a fantastic Relay for Life together on Nolan Field at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark,” said Christian Alvarado, publicity chairman.

“Through their hard work in preparing for the event, and by spending hours walking for the cause, Clark residents and residents in the surrounding areas certainly did their part to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays," said Karen Infantino, event co-chair (along with Carolanne Romeo).

The top individual fundraiser was Renee Sarnicki, who collected $12,656.81 in donations. The top fundraising team was Rahway Regional Cancer Center with $51,514.89, led by Sarnicki, who is also the Relay for Life of Clark Survivor Chair, team captain and an RN at Rahway Regional Cancer Center.

“Many people in our community alone will face a cancer diagnosis this year,” said  Sarnicki. “And it’s critical that we come together during Relay to help the American Cancer Society achieve its mission of saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back."

More than 1,050 people, represented by 40 teams, 220 cancer survivors, 8 all-stars who fundraised $2,500+, and 15 Grand Club members who have fundraised $1,000+ participated in this year’s Relay event. The teams were comprised of area families, faith-based groups, businesses, clubs and other organizations in the community.

Even though $146,876.82 is this year's current total, participants can still fundraise up until August 31 for the Relay for Life of Clark by donating to someone on relayforlife.org/clarknj or mailing donations to the American Cancer Society office at 986 S. Springfield Avenue in Springfield, NJ 07081.

The American Cancer Society helps people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; find cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and fight back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
