This release was submitted by Clark Athletic Director Gus Kalikas.

On January 27, 2013, Samantha Rodrigues, of Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, N.J., joined together with over 150 female student-athletes from New Jersey’s high schools, colleges, and universities at Seton Hall University in celebration for National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).  NGWSD is one of the largest events in the state that recognizes women’s athletics.  Rodrigues was accompanied by her parents, Carlos and Maria Rodrigues, and varsity soccer coach, Meredith Qualshie, at the celebration. Samantha Rodrigues was nominated by her coach for her accomplishments as an outstanding high school female athlete in both soccer and track and field.

NGWSD is recognized in all 50 states to honor the success of female athletes and recognize the struggle for equality for women in sports. The Outstanding Athlete Awards were presented to one individual from each high school, junior college, and college in attendance.   Following the luncheon, Samantha Rodrigues joined with the other outstanding female athletes to watch the Seton Hall vs. Rutgers women’s basketball game.
