ALJ Bowling Team Honored at Clark BOE Meeting

The Crusader Bowling team captured the Group I State Championship this year for the first time in 28 years.

The Arthur L. Johnson Bowling Team was honored by the Clark School District’s Board of Education on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. 

The Crusader Bowling team captured the Group I State Championship this year for the first time in 28 years. In addition, this year Johnson also won the Watchung Conference, the Union County Championship, and the Group 1 Sectional State Tournament for a “three-peat” performance.  Johnson was also ranked #6 in the Star Ledger’s Top 20 poll.

The players and coaches were called up and received certificates celebrating their wonderful achievements. Head Coach Michele Zaleski and Coach Stephen Hopkins were called up, followed by the bowling team. Certificates were issued to the following members of the team: Vincent DiGeronimo, Danny Levitz, Marc Crisafi, Michael Griffin, Steven Kotowski, Tom Malanga, Sam Risko, Bobby Weisensee, Tyler Challiet, Nicholas DiGeronimo, and Andrew Kamichoff.

Gus Kalikas, Supervisor of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education, had this to say about the event, “Our bowling team has been one of the bright spots in our winter season for the past three years. The have worked hard to achieve their goals not only as individuals, but as a team. Their accomplishments are unprecedented, and with a young core of bowlers returning, I am sure their success will continue next year.”
