Mother of Trooper Killed on Roadside Talks to ALJ Students About 'Move Over' Law

Trooper Marc Castellano was struck while responding to a roadside emergency on the parkway in 2010.

This release was received from the Clark School District.

On December 12, 2013, Donna Setaro, mother of Trooper Marc Castellano, significantly impacted the students and faculty at ALJ.  She spoke to the 10th-12th grade students about driver safety and the significance of the Move Over Law.  Donna shared her personal story with the students regarding the driver that struck and killed her son while responding to a roadside emergency.

Students walked in the auditorium thinking “this is just another speaker telling us to drive safe.”  What the students didn’t know was the effect Donna’s story would have on them.  Students were so moved by the presentation that some had tears in their eyes, others were speechless and a few approached Donna to ask questions, offer their condolences and thank her for sharing her story.

“The presentation was infinitely valuable for our students. It not only educated them about the Move Over Law, but it also reminded students of how the choices they make can have such a tragic impact on so many people. I think students have a better understanding of the Move Over Law and will be talking about it for quite some time.” – Patty Adamowitz

The Move Over Law, effective January 2009, requires motorists who are approaching emergency vehicles, tow trucks or other highway safety vehicles with flashing lights to slow down and move over.  If it’s not safe to move over, drivers must slow down below the posted speed limit.  Please help Donna Setaro with her campaign to keep our emergency workers safe while they are on the job and educate others about the Move Over Law!
