Third grade students at Frank K. Hehnly School in Clark were invited to come in before school for the Breakfast Bunch to learn about yoga with Mrs. Kristi Reeves, a parent in the school and a yoga instructor in the local area. Students began the meeting by eating their small breakfast of apples and granola bars as Mrs. Reeves defined the meaning of yoga and discussed where it originated from. She asked the students in attendance what their favorite color, sport, and flowers were and was able to relate it back to yoga.
Breakfast Bunch students were then invited to the open area on the carpet to learn and practice yoga positions. Reeves demonstrated each position for the students and described what each pose meant and how it helped your body. One position that the third graders enjoyed was the “Tree Pose”. In this position they were told to stand on one leg and sway their arms over their heads like a tree waving in the wind.
By the end of the Breakfast Bunch, students seemed more relaxed and were ready to face the day and the start to their week!
