Harlem Wizards Take on 'Clark All Stars' for Education Fund Benefit

Trick-hoops, alley-oops and a unique version of comedy, athleticism and entertainment for all ages are coming to Clark’s Arthur L. Johnson High School gym on Friday night, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. The Harlem Wizards, a flashy, awe-inspiring team of basketball exhibition pros, will take on the “Clark All Stars,” a team comprised of popular teachers from all Clark schools, Clark Recreation coaches, community leaders, and more, all led by “Coach, Sal”, the mayor.  

ALJ Cheerleaders and special guest volunteers from the community will cheer on the “Clark All Stars” from the sidelines! This is family entertainment for all ages, laughter and fun at its best, and a chance to come out and support education, local teachers and community leaders. There will be tons of free prizes, raffles and a chance to meet the players and get their autographs. Wizards players promise to stay until every autograph is signed.

The goal of this entertaining event is to raise funds for The Clark Education Fund’s educational grants. “This is an exhibition basketball team, similar to the Harlem Globetrotters,” said organizer Alice Dietze. "This event is hosted by The Clark Education Fund and all profits will go directly back into Clark classrooms in the form of financial grants for innovative educational materials, programs and technology."

As a preview, Clark students will have a chance to meet a Harlem Wizards Star at school on Monday, November 19 at assemblies and during lunch periods at all schools.

All tickets are $12.00. They may be purchased via order forms through the schools, through Clark Recreation Director Ralph Bernardo at the Clark Rec Center or by contacting Alice Dietze at adietze@verizon.net. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the event if not sold out in advance.

"We're going to put on a show like basketball on Broadway, baby. You get to see a little bit of everything," said Arthur Lewis Jr., who is known as King Arthur on the court. The team's mix of comedy and athleticism inspires as well as entertains, according to Lewis. Bring the family, enjoy a full night of crazy antics and comedy, and help support education in Clark schools! Refreshments will be available and Harlem Wizards souvenirs, basketballs, tees and more will be sold at the event.
