Former ALJ Athletes Pay a Visit to Valley Road School

The athletes shared how their values of hard work, determination and dedication led them to where they are today.

On May 30, 2013 the fourth and fifth grade students who enrolled in Cindy Tarello's Breakfast Bunch Club at Valley Road School in Clark met with former Arthur L. Johnson athletes who are currently or have previously competed at the collegiate level.

Former ALJ athletes included: Emily Vargas, track athlete from Rutgers University; Matt Klimchek, lacrosse player from Rutgers University; Schott Klimchek, lacrosse player from Rutgers University; Cathy Goncalves, track athlete from The College of New Jersey; and Sara Vagie, former track athlete and current skydiver from Westpoint Academy.

The athletes shared how their values of hard work, determination and dedication led them to where they are today. The Supervisor of Athletics and former high school football coach Gus Kalikas also spoke the students about the importance of balancing academics and athletics and how it takes both to be truly successful. Kalikas also distributed ALJ foam fingers to all the students as a token of athletic spirit.
