Crusaders Set for 2012 Spring Season

A quick look ahead at the 2012 spring season for the Johnson Crusaders.

Baseball

The Crusaders look to build upon a season that saw them get eliminated in the first round of the state playoffs by North Plainfield. Johnson returns junior first basemen John Stauffer, senior DH Nick Wrobleski, junior shortstop Jay Shaprio and will look to deal with the loss of a strong senior class including Mark Wilson who signed with St. Peter's College in the MAAC conference

Softball

The Johnson softball team turned in an impressive 2011 campaign that saw them win 17 games before falling to Delaware Valley in the second round of the state playoffs. The team graduates seniors Alison Calo, Alexandra Cocchia, Kelsey Herbig, Lexi LaSala, Victoria Martin, and Cat Riechers from the conference championship squad. For this season the Crusaders will return senior pitcher Alison Meagher, Sarah Panetta along juniors Patti Bailey and Cyndi Wilson to name a few.

Boys Lacrosse

The 2012 Crusaders look to turn in a state-playoff worthy effort after falling short in 2011. The team is also shooting to reach the Union County championship. On the way the team looks to lower their goals against average while coming together as more of a team rather then a group of talented indivudals. Those talented individuals are led by senior attackers Nick Mullery, C.J. Francisco and Vin Manasia. In net for the Crusaders will be senior Kevin Eipel and junior Shawn Myers. In the midfield will be junior Mike Cieslak Jr. and Joe Lomely and Joe Francisco (also the face-off man) who are both sophomores. In front of the net will be senior John Antanasio, junior Lance Pecina and sophomore Vin Banek. Johnson's young roster (only six seniors out of 40 players) should lead to a team that takes its bumps early only to play its best lacrosse as the season winds down.
