Crusader Athletic Leadership Council Takes a Lesson From the Marines

Students learned the Marines' leadership techniques and how to apply them.

The Arthur L. Johnson high school Crusader Athletic Leadership Council took part in a Marine Corps Leadership Seminar on Tuesday.

The Marine Corps Leadership Seminar is built around the Marine Corps 14 leadership traits and 11 leadership principles which are the hallmark of the U.S. Marine Corps. The presentation included included scenario based examples in which students working in groups identified how they would approach and act in a given scenario utilizing the leadership traits and principals.

The hope is that the seminar will provide students and members of the CALC with leadership strategies and techniques to assist with their high school athletics, academic effort and overall personal development.

“The CALC was thrilled to be able to host Major Ogden and the Marine Leadership Seminar" said Gus Kalikas, Supervisor of Athletics, Health, and Phys. Ed. at ALJ. "Our student athletes learned a lot through talking about aspects of leadership and role-playing various scenarios that integrated the leadership yraits. There is no doubt in my mind that our student athletes will be able to employ these traits in the classrooms and on the fields in order to make themselves better students, athletes, and citizens.”

Kalikas and the C.A.L.C. would like to thank Major Ogden, Captain Simpson and all of the Marines that attended the meeting and inspired the student athletes of Arthur L. Johnson High School in continuing to strive for excellence.
