Clark Teacher, Administrator Present Progressive Math Initiative at Conference

This year's conference was the first year members from the Clark School District have been invited to present.

Clark Assistant Superintendent Edward Grande and Carl H. Kumpf Middle School Mathematics Teacher Cristina Faro were selected to present a workshop on the Progressive Mathematics Initiative (PMI) and Block Scheduling at the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA) annual conference on Oct. 19 in Long Branch.

Grande and Faro held a workshop discussing the components of the PMI curriculum. Topics discussed included PMI’s free online resources, alignment with the common core standards, and enrichment activities that can be paired with the program. Attendees of the workshop were able to interact with the SMART Response software that provides students with immediate feedback for answering questions with handheld responders.

Sample units from the PMI program were used to provide attendees with an example of a standard lesson, class work, homework and quiz from PMI. A Q&A session was held at the closing of the presentation to allow for questions and comments about the program.
