Clark Educator Honored by Union County Human Relations Commission

Henry Varriano is a retired Elizabeth teacher and on the Clark Board of Education.

Clark resident Henry Varriano, longtime educator with the Elizabeth School District and current Clark Board of Education Member, was honored with the Unity Award for Achievement by an Educator by the Union County Human Relations Commission recently in a ceremony in Union.

Varriano’s award recognized him for “emphasizing the importance of a learning environment that embraces the arts, culture, and citizenship and promotes and encompasses the entire community for the benefit of all students.”

Following his retirement as an elementary educator with the Elizabeth School District, Varriano was elected to the Clark Board of Education in 2003.  In this role, Varriano has participated as a member of the Union County School Boards Association and the Union County Educational Services Commission.  Varriano is also actively involved in the Union County Italian-American Organization.  Through his work with UNICO and the Clark Board of Education, Varriano has fostered the concept of  citizenship, is a proponent of pride on one’s cultural heritage and promotes respect for all cultures.

Varianno is also a regular guest at school functions, both during and after school hours. He is a big proponent of the arts, and he has served a major role in impacting the town’s academic and cultural arts arenas.
