Clark Education Fund Gives Out Fall Grants

On Tuesday, December 11, 2012, the Clark Education Fund (C.E.F.) handed out their annual Fall C.E.F. Grants to the many teachers that applied. The Arthur L. Johnson Physical Education Department and Coaches were well represented as Andrea Ascolese, Dan House, Anthony Delconte, and Brian Kenyon all received grants that will benefit the students at Arthur L. Johnson High School.

Andrea Ascolese (ALJ Physical Education Teacher, Assistant Field Hockey Coach, and Assistant Softball Coach), received a wonderful Mini Grant from the Clark Education Fund to allow for Junior year health classes to be given the opportunity to become CPR certified through the AHA for infant certification as well as adult certification. CPR training can help an adult, child or infant that is in cardiac arrest or has an obstructed airway. By purchasing infant manikins, the students can receive the proper training that is needed for an emergency involving an infant, since the CPR technique differs from an infant and child to an adult. The manikins that we will purchase with this grant awarded by the CEF will serve as a hands-on training tool to make that certification much more worthwhile.

Dan House (ALJ Physical Education Teacher, Head Soccer Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach, and Head Golf Coach), received a generous Mini Grant from the Clark Education Fund to expand this year’s 2012 Tchoukball activity. The new Tchoukball rebounders that will be purchased will allow for two full games to be played simultaneously and provide maximum participation for all students involved in playing the Tchoukball games. These donated rebounders will generate more opportunities for children to practice and be able to master the necessary skills involved to be successful in the sport of Tchoukball.

Anthony DelConte (ALJ Math Teacher, Assistant Football Coach, Assistant Track Coach), received a grant that is a math program that can produce math images more clearly and print them onto a test / quiz format. It can be altered to suit the teacher and class type so it can be used for a variety of grades and levels. In addition, it will be used to generate benchmark tests as well as mid – term and final exams for the math department. This program will make it easier for students to understand and interpret as well as allowing possible improvement in math scores.

Brian Kenyon (ALJ Business teacher, Assistant football Coach, Assistant Track Coach), received a grant for Dreamweaver Software and Dreamweaver Manuals to teach students how to create and modify websites. Once the students have become accustomed to the software, they will then become the custodians of the Clark Education Fund Website. Students will also be able to further their use of this software to creating and maintaining personal and business websites outside of the school.

With the help of the C.E.F. our teachers and Coaches will continue to provide the best education possible as well as enhancing the many extra-curricular activities that are offered in the Clark School District.
