Cat in the Hat Visits Lincoln School

Lincoln School in Garwood recently had a very important visitor who helped to congratulate the students on their accomplishment of "Reading Across America!" – Dr. Seuss's the Cat in the Hat.

As a school, the Lincoln School students and staff successfully read over 5,797 books and chapters. (5,797 stands for the distance in miles from the westernmost point of Hawaii to the easternmost point in Maine.)  

Read Across America activities continued at the school throughout February with pairing/sharing activities, classroom visits by guest readers, readings from Dr. Seuss books, and Lincoln School's annual book swap coordinated by LAL teacher, Mrs. Benc.

The National Education Association (NEA) annually sponsors the Read Across America event. The NEA's Read Across America focuses the country's attention on how important it is to motivate children to read in addition to helping them master basic skills. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning.
