ALJ Seniors Nick Mullery, Sarah Panetta Win UNICO Award

The award recognizes students who have overcome obstacles to achieve through academics, athletics and community service.

The Clark UNICO Chapter along with nine other chapters awarded their recipients of the Annual Brian Piccolo Award which was held at L’Affaire in Mountainside on Friday, May 11.

The recipients from High School were seniors Nick Mullery and Sarah Panetta. The two received the prestigious award based on athletics, academics and community service. UNICO, an Italian-American organization, is an acronym for Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity, and Opportunity.

Piccolo was a running back for the Chicago Bears who died from cancer and since his death the Bears and the Atlantic Coast Conference have awarded the Brian Piccolo award to couragous athletes. UNICO follows suit, honoring Piccolo's memory by presenting the Brian Piccolo Award to courageous and outstanding athletes of Italian-American heritage.
