The Week Ahead: St. Agnes Carnival, Help for Greg Benefit, Council Meetings and More

What's going on in Clark and Garwood the week of May 6.

Today, Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) and L’Oréal USA officials will hold a news conference at the L'Oreal headquarters in Clark to discuss H.R. 4395, legislation authored by the Seventh District lawmaker to help create jobs and spur innovation by updating current federal regulations for the cosmetics and personal care industry.

Clark Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Room 30 of the Municipal Building. The agenda includes award of a contract to Energy Source LLC for the supply of electricity at an estimated cost savings of $196,034.00 over a three-year period. Discussions items include grease traps for retail food establishments; opposing Senate Bill 1451 which changes the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Act; and opposing Senate Bill 1452 which changes the requirements of the Open Public Records Act. Garwood Council meets Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall. There are no ordinances on the agenda. See a PDF of the agenda in our gallery, right.

On Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m., the Windsor Diner hosts "Blues at Windsor" featuring The Mimi Nowak Project. Doors open for seating and dinner service starting at 6 p.m. - Dinner service continues during event showtime at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $29.95 which includes choice of special dinner entree, dessert and beverage, plus wine tasting. Additional bar service available. Marine Cpl. Greg Caron, a friend to Garwood PBA Local 117, was seriously injured by an IED while serving our country in Afghanistan. He lost both of his legs, a finger, and broke his collarbone. On Thursday, the PBA is hosting a benefit at to help assist the Caron family during this misfortunate time. 

On Friday, May 11, the Skulski Art Gallery of the in Clark is host the opening reception for a photographic show featuring works of three photographers: Jan Bogdanski, Frederick Dammont and Roman Demko. Their photos will be on display until the end of the month. The reception is from 8 - 10 p.m. An added attraction for the opening will be a short performance by Robert Argasinski, a 13-year-old piano virtuoso and student of Sophia Agranovich, Julliard School graduate.

On Friday, May 11, students are invited to attend the PTA sponsored student dance tonight from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Parents must drop off their children at 7:30 and pick them up at the school at 9:30 p.m.
