Rahway Declares State of Emergency, Prohibits Driving After 8 P.M.

The declaration was made through the Union County First Alert system.

Rahway has declared a state of emergency, prohibiting all non-essential motor vehicle traffic, in light of the expected conditions as Hurricane Irene approaches.

Through the Union County First Alert system, the city issued the following declaration:

CITY OF RAHWAY
EMERGENCY PROCLAMATION

TO ALL CITIZENS AND PERSONS WITHIN THE CITY OF RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY, AND TO ALL DEPARTMENTS, DIVISIONS, AND BUREAUS OF THE CITY OF RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY.

WHEREAS, pursuant to the powers vested in us by Chapter 251 of the Laws of 1942, as amended and supplemented by N.J.S.A. APP 9-30 et. Seq. And N.J.S.A. 2C:33-1 et seq., we have declared that a local disaster emergency exists within the City of Rahway; and

WHEREAS, the aforesaid laws authorized the promulgation of such orders, rules, and regulations as are necessary to meet the various problems which have, or may be, presented by such emergency; and

WHEREAS, by reason of HURRICANE IRENE IMPACTING OUR COMMUNITY  and

WHEREAS, it has been determined that the City of Rahway should then be a declared disaster area, and further, that certain measures must be taken in order to insure that the authorities will be unhampered in their efforts to maintain law and order as well as an orderly flow of traffic, and further, in order to protect the persons and property of the residents affected by the conditions; and

WHEREAS, the entire CITY OF RAHWAY is designated an emergency area

NOW, THEREFORE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH the aforesaid laws, we do hereby promulgate and declare the following regulations shall be operative effective immediately in addition to all other laws of the State of New Jersey and the City of Rahway;

1. All non-essential motor vehicle traffic is prohibited EFFECT 8PM SATURDAY 8-27-11, AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE TRAVEL IS RESTRICTED TO ONLY EMERGENCY NEEDS.

2. A CURFEW IS IN EFFECT BEGINING 10PM SATURDAY 8-27-11. ALL  ABC LICENSED PREMISES ARE ADVISED THAT EFFECTIVE 10PM SATURDAY 8-27-11  AND  UNTIL THIS ORDER IS RESCINDED, only employees listed upon the official license  employee list will be authorized to be on the property of any licensed premises.


3. All other businesses, particularly those in areas prone to flooding, are urged to close and to remain closed until 10am Monday 8-29-11

4. Residents in areas prone to flooding are urged to relocate to safer areas and shelter with family. There is a regional shelter open for those who need it at the Clark Municipal Building 430 Westfield Avenue Clark, New Jersey.
