One-Seat Ride to NYC to Be Discussed at Raritan Valley Rail Coalition Meeting

The opportunity for a one-seat ride into Manhattan from the Raritan Valley line may be possible now that NJ Transit has acquired dual-powered trains.

Elected officials, transportation professionals and the public are invited to the next meeting of the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition on Monday, Aug. 12.

The featured speakers will be AECOM Vice President and Senior Project Manager Ruby Siegel and Dan Baer of Parsons Brinckerhoff.  They represent the joint venture consultant team supporting the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). They will discuss the work on the FRA’s NEC Futures Program and how it dovetails with the Amtrak Gateway Tunnel project and proposed one-seat ride into Penn Station New York. 

The opportunity for a one-seat ride into Manhattan from the Raritan Valley line may be possible now that NJ Transit has acquired dual-powered trains that can operate directly into the tunnels.

Also, Rail Coalition trustees will provide an update on the Coalition’s One Seat Ride Campaign, including supporting municipal resolutions, results from recent meetings in Westfield and Cranford and ongoing outreach activities. 

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the third-floor freeholders’ meeting room of the Somerset County Administration Building; the mapping address is 20 Grove St., Somerville, NJ 08876.  Free parking is available in the Bernie Field parking deck adjacent to the administration building; the entrance is off East High Street.
