UPDATED: NJT Service To Remain Suspended Until Further Notice

Bus and light rail to run on modified schedule.

UPDATED on Aug. 29 at 3 p.m.

  • New Jersey Transit rail service will remain suspended until further notice due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Irene. Commuters are advised to check NJT's website for updates and closed rail lines. Among the lines that will not open are the NJ Coast Line and Gladstone Branch, the agency said in a statement on its website Sunday afternoon. The agency also noted that it will not offer rail service to the Meadowlands Monday night for the rescheduled Giants/Jets preseason football game, though Coach USA will be offering extra service from Port Authority in midtown. No specific notice has been posted regarding the status of the Raritan Valley Line, though commuters are encouraged to seek alternative methods of transportation for Monday if possible.
  • New Jersey Transit bus service is expected to operate on a modified weekday schedule today, with fewer trips operating during peak periods on some routes, as certain areas may be subject to delays and detours due to local flooding. Bus service to/from Willowbrook Mall and Mothers Park/Ride may be suspended due to flooding.
  • NJT will allow systemwide cross-honoring of train, bus and light rail passes.
  • PATH rail service in New Jersey and New York resumed at 4 a.m. Monday.
  • Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule on today.
  • Access Link Paratransit Service will restart operation at 1 p.m. today.
  • The Holland Tunnel is open in both directions.
  • The George Washington Bridge's upper level is open. The lower level is currently open to E-ZPass customers only.
