Freshmen Orientation at ALJ High School Today

Five Things You Need to Know Today, Friday, September 2

  1. Arthur L. Johnson High School hosts today from 9:30 to 11 a.m. All incoming freshmen are invited to attend. Orientation will provide incoming students with important information about ALJ, familiarize them with the school and class schedules and give them the opportunity to meet administrators, peer leaders and interact with friends. A special bus schedule for Garwood students is posted on the ALJ website.
  2. William Shakespeare’s “” will be performed outdoors today and Saturday at the Mindowaskin Park gazebo off Broad Street in Westfield at 2 p.m. The play, presented by Troupe of Friends is Shakespeare’s satirical take on the transfer of political power from King Richard to his cousin Bullingbrook, the future King Henry IV. All are welcome at these free performances. Bring a blanket or chair for seating and enjoy the great outdoors and some classic theatre.
  3. Parents, bring your youngsters to Trailside Nature and Science Center this Sunday, September 4, to join a Naturalist for a at 3 p.m. Children will then join the Naturalist on a visit to the Center’s exhibits or venture outdoors, weather permitting, to enhance the story with fun and engaging activities.   4. New Jersey Blood Services has issued an . Because of Hurricane Irene, many blood drives were cancelled and the Scotch Plains donor center was closed. The supply of several blood types has dropped below the two-day minimum level. With Labor Day right around the corner, the blood center needs donors to step up and help replenish the blood supply. To donate blood or to organize a blood drive, please call 800-933-2566 or visit www.nybloodcenter.org.
  5. Shutterbugs, get snapping. Bring your camera on your Labor Day weekend adventures. The deadline is approaching for NJ . The contest is open to all ages and entries will be accepted through September 9. Winners will be selected in three categories: New Jersey Shore, State Parks and Wildlife.
