Excessive Heat Warning Issued Statewide

Five things you need to know today, Thursday, July 21.

  1. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for our area beginning this afternoon and lasting through Saturday evening. Temperatures will soar into the upper 90s today, and are expected to climb to a peak tomorrow, reaching or even exceeding 100 degrees. Heat indices are expected to rise to 105 degrees today and as high as 110 on Friday. Drink plenty of fluids, limit exertion outdoors, stay indoors to keep cool, don’t leave kids or pets in your car, even for a minute, and check on neighbors who live alone. For information about cooling centers and extended county pool hours, .
  2. Tonight is the second night of final performances by kids from the Theater Camp of New Jersey, which took place at the Deutscher Club for the past four weeks. At Westfield High School, two casts will take the stage to present Annie at 6 p.m. and Guys and Dolls at 8 p.m.
  3. New Jersey born singer/songwriter Nicole Atkins and The Black Sea will perform tonight at 7 p.m. at the free Mayor’s Concert Series in Rahway.  Bring your lawn chairs to the Rahway Train Station Plaza, at the corner of Irving Street and Milton Avenue in Rahway, and enjoy the hot sounds of a hot new star on a sizzling night.  In case of severe weather, the concert will be moved to the Rahway Recreation Center.
  4. Union County College brings a free to the Clark Library today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This class focuses on web-based email, email etiquette, responding to job postings and online applications. Participants needing an email address will be assisted in the creation of a personal email account.
