Cell Tower Vote Postponed at Clark Zoning Board

A 130-foot monopole is proposed for the Access Self Storage property on Central Avenue.

The Clark Zoning Board held off from voting on whether to approve an application for a 130-foot monopole cell phone tower on the Access Self Storage property on Central Avenue.

Due to how late the meeting went – till nearly 11 p.m. – the board felt they needed more time to discuss the joint application from AT&T and a company that builds the poles, Wireless Edge.

The pole will fill a gap in providing consistent AT&T coverage, according to the applicant. It is a permitted use in the space (meaning Clark's zoning already allows it here), though the application is for two variances, including one to allow an exception to the 15-foot setback (they would require an 8-foot setback). In addition to the pole, a generator to power it and small shelter to house equipment would also be located on the property.

Photos presented by the experts for the applicant show what the proposed tower would look like, superimposed on images of the surrounding area. (See them in our gallery.)

The pole would also allow for "co-locators" – other mobile companies – to perhaps use the pole for their antennae, according to experts for the applicant.

The board will likely vote on the application at the next meeting on Jan. 27. If approved, the pole could be built by the spring, John Arthur, president and CEO of Wireless Edge, told Patch.
