Tuesday Night: Clark Sandy Update - Schools Closed Through Friday, No Trick or Treating

An update from Emergency Management Director Jerry Fewkes.

Emergency Management Director Jerry Fewkes updated Patch on post-Sandy conditions in Clark:

According to Fewkes:

-50 to 70 percent of Clark is still without power.

-Clark Public Schools will remain closed through Friday.

-Residents are advised not to allow children to trick-or-treat tomorrow due to unsafe conditions. No word yet on whether an alternative trick-or-treating date will be set.

-No sign of PSE&G in town yet. No word on when power will be restored, but residents are advised that it could be five to seven days before power is back throughout town.

-Fewkes believes all Clark gas stations are currently out of gas. See people lined up outside them in our gallery, here.

-The Clark DPW has been out removing trees and debris that are not entangled in power lines.

-The Clark First Aid Squad served as a shelter during the storm and saw about six people. They will remain open for those needing shelter - no one is there presently. If more residents are in need of shelter, they will likely bring people to the Cranford Community Center, which is operating a regional center for Union County.
