The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Union County, effective until 8 p.m. tonight. The Watch also encompasses several other New Jersey counties, as well as parts of New York and Connecticut.
Lauren Nash of the National Weather Service says that a tornado "watch" covers a larger area, and means that a tornado is possible. Rain and thunderstorms are likely during a tornado "watch." A tornado "warning," however, is issued when a storm is capable of producing a tornado.
Clark and Garwood can expect thunderstorms beginning at 3 p.m., and lasting until about 8 p.m. Some storms may be severe with damaging winds. In the event a tornado watch is issued, be sure to check the NWS guide to protecting yourself.
