The Garwood Blotter: Fight Between Two Cranford Youths at McDonald's

May 15, 12: 28 a.m. – 21-year-old Stephen Wenson of Scotch Plains was arrested early Sunday morning for DWI while officers were investigating a female in distress on the side of the road. Investigation found Wenson and his girlfriend were having a dispute – Wenson in his car and his girlfriend on the sidewalk. Wenson was observed by Sergeant Douglas Stoffer driving past her and in an erratic manor. After parking his car, Wenson returned to where officers were now interviewing his girlfriend and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Wenson provided breath samples indicating a .14% BAC reading and he was issued summonses for DWI and careless driving. Summonses are returnable in Garwood Municipal Court. No complaints were made between Wenson and his girlfriend.

May 13, 5:47 p.m. – Police responded to a 911 report of an assault in the Garwood McDonald's parking lot. Investigation found that 20-year-old James Mattis of 198 Arbor Street in Cranford was parked in the McDonald's lot when 19-year-old George Kolokythas, also of Cranford, pulled up in a friend's car, exited and proceeded to punch and kick Mattis for an unknown reason. Mattis sustained minor bruising and refused medical attention by the First Aid squad, which responded as a precaution. Kolokythas was gone on police arrival and the victim - Mattis, was advised of the complaint process and how to follow up if he was so desirous.

May 11, 12: 34 a.m. – Police responded to Locust Avenue & East Street to a report of a motor vehicle accident. Investigation found that a black Ford Focus had struck a parked vehicle. The driver of the Ford, 22-year-old Jason Nardone of 235 Hemlock Avenue in Garwood, was found to have been operating the car under the influence of alcohol and arrested. Nardone provided breath samples indicating him to have a  .17% blood alcohol content.  There were no injuries as a result of the crash and summons were issued to Nardone for DWI & Careless driving, which are returnable in Garwood Municipal Court.
