The Garwood Blotter: Fisherman Lawn Statue Stolen, Cranford Youth Arrested for Marijuana

The following arrest information was provided by the Clark Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Garwood police activity from May 13 - June 23, 2012:

June 21, 11:22 a.m. – Police and fire responded to Marty's Shoe Outlet at 119 South Avenue for an odor of smoke in the building. Employees reported that they suffered a "brown out" just prior to observing the smell of smoke. The building was evacuated and the Garwood Fire Department investigated. No fire was found. PSE&G was requested and responded. The building was pronounced secure and PSE&G is investigating.

June 21, 11:43 a.m. – The manager of the Garwood Pathmark at 10 South Avenue called reporting a smoke condition in the rear storage area behind the loading docks. Police responded and assisted with the evacuation and security of the store. The Garwood Fire Department responded and investigation found the problem to be an air conditioner control switch. Repairs were taken care of by Pathmark's private vendor. The Board of Health responded as a matter of procedure and reported the smoke was isolated to rear storage area. Pathmark reopened after being closed only briefly.

June 22, 12:39 a.m. – Devin Chiari, 21, of Cranford was found to be in possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and accompanying drug paraphernalia after investigation during a motor vehicle stop. Chiari was arrested and issued complaints returnable in Garwood Municipal Court.

June 23, 4:04 p.m. – A resident of 409 West Street reported that at some point overnight at three-foot-tall statue of a fisherman was taken from in front of his home. The statue was valued at more than $200 and weighed enough that two people might have been needed to lift it. The incident is under investigation.
