The Blotter: Police Activity, Feb. 21 - 28

Garwood deals with an underage drinking incident; a burglary and several arrests in Clark.

CLARK

Feb. 28, 11:03 a.m. – At police headquarters, police arrested Chulsoo Kim, age 42, single, unemployed of 100 Diaz Street in Iselin on an outstanding warrant in the amount of $1,213 for contempt of court. Kim was subsequently transported to the Union County Jail. Kenneth Sarnecki was the arresting officer. 

Feb. 27, 10:45 a.m. – Police took reports of criminal mischief to motor vehicles, which were parked at residences at 246, 310 and 350 Valley Road. The incidents are under investigation. Kenneth Sarnecki was the investigating officer.

Feb. 25, 10:12 p.m. – In the vicinity of Lake Avenue and Sweet Briar Drive, police arrested Latoya Cofield, age 26, single, a hairstylist of 147 Remington Avenue in Plainfield on an outstanding warrant from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department in the amount of $7,076.43. Cofield was subsequently turned over to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. George Marmarou was the arresting officer.

Feb. 25, 1:03 p.m. – In the vicinity of Clarkton Drive, police arrested Richard Casale, age 20, single, a florist of 429 North 14th Street in Kenilworth for possession of drug paraphernalia. Casale was also charged with careless driving. Casale was subsequently released on his own recognizance pending a court date. Brian Renda was the arresting officer.

Feb. 24, 10:21 a.m. – In the vicinity of State Street, police arrested Shawn Antisz, age 21, single, unemployed of 42 Holland Drive in Clark on an outstanding warrant from South River in the amount of $1,000 for contempt of court. Antisz was also charged with possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substances) in a motor vehicle, burglary and several motor vehicle violations. Antisz was subsequently released after posting bail pending court dates. Detective Alex Yanes was the arresting officer. 

Feb. 23, 12:48 p.m. – In the vicinity of 67 Brookside Terrace, police arrested Mohammad Abdelijawad, age 27, married, a food worker of 1013 North Broad Street, Apt. #209 in Elizabeth on an outstanding warrant from Clifton in the amount of $2,500. Abdelijawad was subsequently released after posting bail. Keith Meehan was the arresting officer.    

Feb. 22, 2:14 p.m. – Police took a report of a burglary to a residence at 48 Holland Drive. The incident is under investigation. Marty Venezio was the investigating officer.   

Feb. 22, 1:18 p.m. – At the Eatontown Police Department, police arrested Thomas Wansaw, age 49, married, unemployed of 777 Central Avenue in Westfield on an outstanding warrant in the amount of $500 for contempt of court. Wansaw was subsequently transported to the Union County Jail. Thomas Sarnecki was the arresting officer.

Feb. 21, 4:26 p.m. – In the vicinity of the Garden State Parkway southbound, police arrested Jakeem Calhoun, age 21, single, unemployed of 12 Lincoln Avenue in Keansburg on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. Calhoun was subsequently released after posting bail. Marty Venezio was the arresting officer.   

 

GARWOOD

Feb. 27, 9:28 a.m. – Police responded to a reported two car motor vehicle accident at North Avenue & North Maple Street. One of the parties involved complained of back pain but refused medical attention. During the investigation it was found that Tanaya Clayton of 280 Goldsmith Avenue in Newark was operating her vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Alex Anderson issued several summons to Clayton and she was released pending court in Garwood.

Feb. 26, 10:40 p.m. – Patrol officers came upon an individual who was lying on the front lawn of 408 Center Street. Investigation found a juvenile in a highly intoxicated state. The juvenile's mother was present as were several other juveniles who were assisting the parent with her son. Five additional juveniles between 15 and 16 years old were found to be under the influence of alcohol which had been consumed at a local park. At some point the party moved to the house of one of the juveniles, where the parents were not present, but realizing that their friend had had too much, they called his mother and assisted in getting him to her car. A total of five juveniles were taken into custody and released to parents at police headquarters. The sixth juvenile was released at the scene to his mother. All six juveniles were charged with underage consumption of alcohol.  states that "Garwood has a no tolerance policy regarding juveniles and alcohol," adds Lieutenant Bruce Underhill. "This could have become a very dangerous situation had the juvenile's friends ignored the warning signs of overindulgence and not summoned a parent or police."      

Feb. 23, 6:11 p.m. – Walter Lee Moore Jr., 39, of 1336 East Front Street in Plainfield was arrested without incident after employees caught him stealing $124.95 worth of baby formula from the ShopRite at 563 North Ave. Moore intended to resell the formula. Moore was processed and released pending court in Garwood after posting bail.
