Cranford Police are investigating a knife-point gas station robbery that occured at the Shell on Raritan Road on the Clark-Cranford border Tuesday night. Cops said the robber ran off with $700 after pulling out a silver pocket knife on a station attendant around 8 p.m., and ordering him to empty his register. The incident occured just two hours before the gas station was supposed to close. No one was hurt.
"The suspect is described as a white male, 18 to 24, 5 foot 10, with an average build," said Cranford Sgt. Gerard Quinn. "He was wearing a gray hoodie with a black bandana around his face."
A previous robbery occured in January in the area of Raritan Road and Lexington Avenue. "The facts of that case do not lead us to believe they are connected," said Quinn. "It's a safe neighborhood, and I would not describe it as a high crime area," he said.
Quinn would not say whether or not the robbery was caught on video. Anyone with information on the incident should contact Det. Michael Andrew Smith at 908-272-2222.
