'Kai the Hitchhiker:' I'm Not Guilty of Clark Murder

Caleb Lawrence McGillivary, accused of killing Clark resident Joseph Galfy earlier this month, arrived in Union County Thursday after his extradition from Philadelphia.

Accused killer Caleb Lawrence McGillivary, better known as "Kai the Hitchhiker," told reporters that he is "not guilty" as he was brought to the Union County Jail on Thursday afternoon following his extradition from Philadelphia.

McGillivary is accused of the murder of 73-year-old Clark lawyer Joseph Galfy earlier this month.

Handcuffed and flanked by several officers as he was first escorted into the Union County Courthouse for fingerprinting, a T-shirt and jeans-clad McGillvary responded "What do you think?" after being asked by reporters if he acted in self-defense.

About 20 minutes later, as we was brought to the Union County Jail across the street, McGillvary answered that he was "not guilty" when asked again by reporters about the murder. He also referenced his supporters, saying, "I just want to say thank them for the support, the letters."

McGillvary then said he couldn't answer anything further as he has been advised by his attorney not to talk to the press.

McGillvary's bail has been set at $3 million. No court dates have been set.

Galfy, 73, was found in his Clark home on Monday, May 13 after hosting McGillvary, 24, overnight on Saturday and Sunday. Police say that McGillvary murdered Galfy, who was found in his underwear and socks, severely beaten. McGillvary was arrested in Philadelphia on May 16.

For his part, in a May 14 post on his Facebook page, McGillvary alleges that he was drugged and raped, and asks readers, "what would you do?"

McGillvary became an Internet sensation in February: After saving a Fresno woman by smashing her attacker in the head with his hatchet, McGillvary’s offbeat personality in an interview made for a YouTube video that garnered nearly 4 million views (see it here - warning, contains profanity). He also recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
