Garwood Police Investigate Thefts from Cars on Second, Third, Fourth Avenues

Plus, a Kings purse snatcher and Westfield teen charged with DWI.

The following arrest information was provided by the Garwood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

April 24: The Garwood Police Department is investigating a rash of burglaries to motor vehicles in the 100 block of Second, Third and Fourth Avenues, where thieves enter unlocked vehicles and take various items including GPS units and change. Residents are advised to lock their vehicles. Anyone with information relating to these incidents should contact Garwood Police Department at 908-789-1500.

March 30, 7:11 p.m. – Officers Kleinsorgen arrested Andrew Greenberg, 55, of Cranford for disorderly persons offense after investigating a report of an intoxicated person on the 200 block of Second Avenye. Greenberg was released with a pending court date.

March 31, 4:51 p.m. Officer Kleinsorgen arrested Ilia Oquendo, 53, of Cranford for a disorderly person offense while investigating a report of a dispute on the 300 block of North Avenue. Oquendo was released with a pending court date.

April 4, 1:23 a.m. – Sgt. Rocco arrested Jonathan Wright, 25, of Monroe Township after investigating suspicious activity in the Burger King parking lot on the 200 block of North Avenue. Wright was charged with possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substances), possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to obtain a NJ drivers license, failure to exhibit documents and failure to wear a seatbelt. Wright was released with a pending court date.

April 4, 12: 18 a.m. – Officer Herz preformed a motor vehicle stop on Lincoln Avenue. Upon his investigation, the driver Kristy Grawehr, 19, from Westfield was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, underage consumption of an alcoholic beverage, an open container of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, failure to exhibit documents, failure to wear seatbelt and careless driving. Grawehr was released with a pending court date.

April 15, 2:40 p.m. – The Garwood Police Department is investigating a theft of a pocketbook from a shopping cart in the Kings Supermarket on the 300 block of South Avenue. Video surveillance shows the suspect take the handbag from the unattended shopping cart and leave the area. Anyone with information should contact the Garwood Police Department at 908-789-1500.

April 18, 11:39 p.m. – Officer Herz performed a motor vehicle stop on the 100 block of South Avenue. Upon his investigation, the driver Aaron Shonda, 39, from Elizabeth was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to wear seatbelt, careless driving and failure to keep right. Shonda was released with a pending court date.
