Man Struck By Train Near Fanwood Station

Police say the 23-year-old Fanwood man was seriously injured but is still alive.

A 23-year-old Fanwood resident was struck and seriously injured by a train near the Fanwood train station last night, police report.

According to Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo, police were called to the scene at about 9:30 p.m. yesterday after an NJ Transit engineer on a passing train saw what he believed to be a body.

When Fanwood and NJ Transit police arrived to the area – about a half mile east of the station – they found the man still alive, though severely injured, Trigo told Patch.

He was then taken to Forest Road Park where he was stabilized and eventually flown by medevac to UMDNJ. The man is still alive at this time, Trigo reports. Trains were shut down for a period of time following the incident.

Police are still investigating.
